An iconic police officer offers a glimpse inside the gritty, thankless world of policing
Policing is, at the best of times, deeply complex, dangerous and wildly underappreciated.
In a high-burn megapolis like Delhi, it’s like being minder of a fireworks factory: one step away from conflagrations, big and small, every minute of day or night.
Yet Maxwell Pereira didn’t just police Delhi for 35 years, he went on to be one of the handful of men in Indian police lore to have earned the title of supercop.
And at Algebra, Pereira offered behind-the-scenes insights and perspective about law enforcement, crime and the criminal psyche through the lens of one of Delhi’s most gruesome crimes ever: the 1995 murder of Naina Sahni by Sushil Sharma in what went on to be called the ‘Tandoor Murder’ case.
